What it’s like to work with me
I was lucky enough to work with Juliet for a year on the Re:Birth project. Juliet has all the skills and attributes that you need to see through a high quality, fast paced research or consultation project: she writes extremely well, facilitates meetings and discussions brilliantly and also presents findings to a variety of audiences in a very engaging way.
Juliet is proactive in finding solutions to problems that arise through a project - whether that is seeking out new software or getting advice on a particular method or approach from her large network of research, maternity and social science contacts.
I have no hesitation in recommending Juliet as a researcher, writer, community engagement and consultation lead. I would be delighted to have the opportunity to work with Juliet again.
— Dr Mary Ross-Davie, Director of Midwifery, Greater Glasgow and Clyde (previously Director for Professional Midwifery, Royal College of Midwives)
“Working collaboratively and imaginatively with others is one of Juliet’s real strengths and I can see it is one of the things she loves about research. I’m very pleased that Juliet is able to continue working with us on a freelance basis as we continue to get the benefit of her great skills in working with people, in taking imaginative and thoughtful approaches to research and in thinking through (as well as helping others to think through) complex questions and problems.”
— Professor Christine McCourt, Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research, City, University of London
“A joy to work with; a true collaborator. I think any practitioners interested in developing their theory of practice or understanding their work through the voices of their service users and key stakeholders should ask for your help”.
— Sam, Social Worker in Children’s Services, SAFE! Support for Young People Affected by Crime
“We love working with Juliet. She is a really gifted, thoughtful and enthusiastic facilitator, bringing with her a love of storytelling, a huge amount of knowledge and understanding, but most importantly a genuine interest in those she is working with. She is especially brilliant at listening to and responding to comments and questions from participants, enabling people to be heard and to develop their own ideas with confidence.”
— Dr Kerry Davies, Research Coordinator Helen & Douglas House, Oxford
“Juliet brought a fresh perspective to a recent knowledge translation project at HSMC. She supported the team to think through how best to make some complex theoretical arguments relevant and useful for organisations looking to develop their (healthcare) workforce. Juliet worked seamlessly between the academic world and our collaborators: third sector organisations, patient representatives, a playwright, film maker and professional actors. When I went on maternity leave towards the end of the project, I trusted Juliet to ensure that the project was completed and I was thrilled that the launch event was a big success! The course materials are available for free at www.birmingham.ac.uk/riskwork.”
— Dr Nicola Gale, Senior Lecturer, Health Services Management Centre, University of Birmingham
“Juliet carried out an evaluation of our new online Wellbeing Hub service and gave us a high quality, informative and very useful piece of work. The extra case studies she included gave a really strong insight into participants’ experiences and will be very helpful for fundraising, alongside her recommendations for shaping the project’s next phase. Juliet was flexible and patient in the face of some unexpected changes and her work was excellent value for money. We look forward to working with her again.”
— Morna Simpkins, Director, MS Society Scotland
Working with Juliet was a pleasure. We brought Juliet onboard to conduct an evaluation of the impact of our philosophical research on the clinical practice of healthcare professionals. Juliet designed pointed interview questions and prompts, carried out the interviews, and provided a detailed report of the overall impact of our research on the workshop participants. Her report provided valuable insight into the positive effects of our research and I have no doubt that the insights were due in large part to the care and attention that she devoted to every stage of the evaluation.
